Editorial charter

This charter describes how the Travel Advice editorial team works. It commits our team to our readers and sets out our editorial quality standards.

Our commitment

Travel Advice produces travel content aimed at informing a decision (where to go, when to leave, how to prepare) rather than pushing a product. Our only interest is the reader's. We commit to publishing information that is verified, dated, and revisable.

Independence

Our content is produced without financial counterpart from the destinations, tourism boards, hoteliers or operators mentioned. We use no paid affiliate links. No content is commissioned, sponsored or pre-approved by a third party.

When a press trip, invitation or equipment loan has contributed to a piece, this is disclosed explicitly at the foot of the article. This disclosure is mandatory in our internal process, even when no editorial counterpart was requested.

Sources and verification

For destination guides

Each guide is written using cross-referenced sources:

  • Official information for formalities, safety and health: French foreign affairs ministry, equivalent of the traveller's home country, WHO, national health authorities, embassies.
  • Reference sources for historical, geographical and cultural context: encyclopaedias, academic works, specialised press.
  • Field knowledge — direct, or reported by a contributor who has spent time on the ground.

For editorial articles

Analysis pieces, reportage and narrative writing are signed. When a fact, figure or quotation is used, its source is indicated. Opinions are distinguished from facts.

Update frequency

Time-sensitive information (entry formalities, currency, safety, transport) is reviewed at least once a year. The last-updated date is displayed on every guide.

In case of a major event (visa change, health crisis, geopolitical event), affected guides are revised without waiting for the annual review.

Right of reply and corrections

If you spot a factual error in our content, report it via the contact page. We correct errors within a reasonable timeframe and indicate the correction date when significant.

Any person, organisation or community considering themselves inaccurately represented in our content has a right of reply. Send your reasoned request via the contact page; we respond within 30 days.

Imagery

Photographs published on Travel Advice are produced by the editorial team, by our contributors, or licensed from professional image banks. Any image from an external contributor is credited. No photograph is generated by artificial intelligence without explicit disclosure.

Practices we avoid

  • "Click-bait": our headlines honestly describe the article's content.
  • Superficial listicles designed to artificially inflate length.
  • The use of automated text generators to produce content without human editorial review.
  • The promotion of operators or destinations in exchange for undisclosed remuneration.

Diversity and representation

We aim to cover a variety of destinations geographically and thematically, beyond just touristic "hot spots". We pay particular attention to sustainable tourism, slow travel, and practices respectful of local populations and the environment.

Updates to this charter

This charter is a living document. We revise it as our practice evolves. Your feedback is welcome via the contact page.
